ABA 2024 ILS Fall Conference
London, United Kingdom
John Davis will speak at the American Bar Association (ABA) 2024 International Law Section (ILS) Fall Conference on November 14, 2024. Davis will moderate the panel "Can the U.S., U.K., and EU Countries Continue to Cooperate Against Corruption After Brexit?" Daniel Wendt will serve as program co-chair for the session.
Despite legal system differences, anti-corruption-related mutual legal assistance has blossomed over the last 25 years, creating, for example, unprecedented cooperation among U.S., U.K., and French authorities in the massive dispositions involving Airbus in 2020. Davis' panel will explore recent developments in mutual assistance related to anti-corruption and related areas (such as sanctions evasion and money laundering), including initiatives such as the U.S. Department of Justice's (DOJ) International Corporate Anti-Bribery program, the U.K. National Crime Agency’s International Anti-Corruption Coordination Centre, and the EU’s proposed directive on combatting corruption and related sanctions regime. The panel will consider whether, post-Brexit, the level of cooperation seen in the Airbus and other cases can continue.
