Larry E. Christensen,* Matteson Ellis, Abigail E. Cotterill,* and Ann Sultan will be participating during the American Bar Association (ABA) International Law Section Spring 2017 meeting from April 25-29, 2017.
Ellis will moderate and Sultan will participate as panel chair during "Latin America's Anti-Corruption Moment: Brazil's Operation Car Wash and Other Legal Breakthroughs in the Region" on Wednesday, April 26th. This presentation will focus on recent groundbreaking developments in Latin America, including the enactment of new anti-corruption laws by several countries, increased enforcement throughout the region, and an all-around heightened focus on compliance.
Cotterill will participate as a speaker during "Crossing the Line: The Law of War and Cyber Engagement" on Thursday, April 27th. She will address the role of export controls and economic sanctions in responding to cyber warfare, as well as the challenges to effective regulation and corporate compliance caused by the diffuse and rapidly changing nature of cyber threats.
Christensen* will participate as panel chair and speaker during "Extraterritorial Reach: Are There No Limits?" on Friday, April 28th. This program will address extraterritorial reach and whether there are limits on such for ambiguity in the laws of countries, the reasonable standard in U.S. Supreme Court antitrust decisions, and the various means to prescribe conduct outside the U.S. and the resulting common conflicts among allied nations in export controls and economic sanctions (ECES) related to Iran, Russia, Cuba, terrorism, proliferation, and national security.
