The Review of Securities & Commodities Regulation
Alejandra Montenegro Almonte, Matteson Ellis, and Katie Cantone-Hardy highlight that despite an overall decline in U.S. enforcement, corruption risks persist in Latin America – a trend reflected in the firm's 2024 Latin America Corruption Survey. Looking ahead, they analyze how anti-corruption efforts may transform under the Trump administration, including a focus on dismantling transnational criminal organizations through Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) designations. "[G]iven the Trump administration's express policy priorities to crack down on cross-border criminal conduct, what remains clear is that companies doing business in Latin America must bolster their internal compliance protocols now more than ever — building off of the growth illustrated in our 2024 Latin America Survey to adequately respond to the evolving enforcement climate," the authors wrote.
