House Looks to Assert "First Mover" Status on Tax Bill

Tax Notes

Jorge Castro, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner and congressional tax counsel, commented on the evolving dynamics between the House and Senate as Congress prepares to tackle a major tax package. The House is expected to assert its "first mover" status, initiating the reconciliation process with tax legislation focused on extending tax relief for families and businesses. Despite the House's readiness, the Senate may opt to develop its own version concurrently, leaving the path forward uncertain. "In an ideal world, I think they're hoping that whatever the House passes, it aligns with what the Senate is going to do so that they're on the same page and they're not too far apart on the process to move forward," Castro said.
