Tax Notes
Jorge Castro, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner and congressional tax counsel, commented on the status of congressional negotiations over a forthcoming GOP-led tax package. As lawmakers return from recess, work is ramping up behind the scenes to finalize the legislation. The recent passage of a budget resolution has paved the way for critical decisions on the scope of the tax provisions that will make it into the reconciliation bill. While tax priorities and political red lines are beginning to take shape, many key elements remain in flux as the House and Senate advance their proposals. Castro said, "I think those final calls haven't been made yet, but I think that they're getting closer every week" to having a package ready for committees to consider and House and Senate floor consideration.
