"Names Circulate for Finance Panel Seat If Menendez Leaves"
Roll Call
Jorge Castro discussed potential replacements for Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) on the Senate Finance Committee following his recent bribery conviction. Menendez is set to resign next month, opening an important seat on the committee, which will have a significant role in shaping tax policy in 2025 in light of key provisions from the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act set to expire. "Whichever way the political winds blow this November, we know that tax policy is going to be front and center. Senate seniority and regional representation will be key factors in determining who gets appointed to the committee. Castro observed that a Senator's decision on committee assignments is influenced by personal preferences and legislative priorities. "It [] is a personal preference and how the senator legislates and what they think is most beneficial to their home state," Castro noted.
