Roll Call

Jorge Castro, former Counselor to the IRS Commissioner and Congressional tax counsel, commented on Senator Michael Crapo's (R-ID) key leadership role on the Senate Finance Committee in 2025. The Committee will address key provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) set to expire next year. Castro noted, "[Senator Crapo] is highly regarded within this caucus, and I think it's going to make him a very effective chairman next year." Known for his consensus-building, Senator Crapo will need to navigate the expiration of $4.5 trillion in tax cuts and additional proposals, including President-elect Trump's new proposals. Castro added, "In many ways, I think that's going to be the whole ballgame: how to develop a package that pleases both chambers [of Congress], but also at the same time pleases fiscal conservatives that want to make sure they don't add to the debt too much."
