Marc Gerson commented on House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp's push for tax reform in 2014 during the Republican planning retreat. Should Camp succeed in making the case that a tax revision will boost the economy and make the United States more competitive, it could help establish a timeline for taking up legislation in the committee, Gerson said. However, if Camp is unable to find clear endorsement during the retreat, House Republicans are likely to look for ways to consider so-called tax extenders, which currently have not been discussed by Ways and Means Republicans. "It will also be interesting to see if there is any discussion of a separate track for the tax extenders package coming out of the retreat," Gerson said.
