Tax Notes

Marc Gerson, former majority tax counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted in Tax Notes on the future of tax credits from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), which remains uncertain, with potential rollbacks a topic of debate in the 2025 tax discussions. Gerson emphasized the difficulty of rolling back these credits, noting that many of the projects they support are already well-established, often in Republican-held districts, and represent significant financial investments. "It's easier said than done to try to repeal these credits. A lot of these projects already have substantial financial investments. They are in districts that are represented by Republicans," Gerson said. He also pointed out the challenge in using repeals as a way to offset spending, suggesting "I don't know, in the grand scheme of things, how much revenue is generated from them to pay for this massive bill."
