Marc Gerson, former majority tax counsel for the House Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted in Bloomberg Law regarding the GOP takeover of the Senate and Mike Crapo's (R-ID) new pivotal role as Chair of the Senate Finance Committee. Crapo will lead the charge on tax policy, especially as key provisions from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) are set to expire in 2025. Crapo, known for being a strategic and behind-the-scenes operator, recently made headlines by blocking a $78 billion business-and-child tax break bill that had passed the House with broad support. This blockage signals potential challenges ahead in the Senate, where Crapo will continue to play a critical role in shaping future tax legislation. Gerson said, "I think there's a lot to be commended for protecting the jurisdiction of the committee and wanting to have a committee process. The Senate generally doesn't take a House product as-is."
