Marc Gerson, former majority tax counsel to the House Committee on Ways and Means, was quoted regarding President Trump's comments on the border adjustment tax proposed by House Republicans. President Trump has said he dislikes the word "adjustment" in the proposal and that he prefers a tariff on imports at the border to a policy change in the tax code. "I think it is very difficult to understand the comments he made. I think they are subject to a lot of degrees of interpretation," Gerson said. "Everything is in a holding pattern while we wait for the release of an administration tax reform plan. In the interim, you are having the president make different statements about taxes. ... So, it's very difficult to tell where the administration will come out."
