Drew Brings Rare Combination of Government and In-House Experience to Top-Ranked Compliance and Investigations Team

Miller & Chevalier Chartered today announced Joshua (Josh) Drew has joined the firm as a Member. Drew, who will counsel clients on corporate compliance, ethics, anti-corruption compliance, and internal and external investigations, is a former federal prosecutor, previously served as Group Chief Ethics & Compliance Officer at international communications and technology company VEON Ltd., and held in several other senior in-house roles for companies in the technology and pharmaceutical sectors.

"Josh is not only an exemplary lawyer, but one who embodies the firm's cultural core values. He has worked in Associate General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer roles at major multinational companies in the telecommunications, technology, and pharmaceutical industries and understands the pressures facing the C-suite and boards, as well as effective approaches to engagement with the broader workforce on ethics and compliance efforts. His track record of success, coupled with his deep understanding of the current heightened enforcement landscape, equips him to immediately make an impact on our clients and deepen our talented team," said Kathryn Cameron Atkinson, Chair of Miller & Chevalier.

"Over the past several years, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has become increasingly involved in the business of compliance in addition to investigations. Josh has played a pivotal role on both sides of these matters, helping companies navigate complex, wide-ranging investigations and emerge stronger. He knows the challenge of running a business while also managing a federal investigation. And he knows the mindset of the prosecutor from spending more than a decade in government," said William Barry, Chair of Miller & Chevalier's Litigation department. "It's rare to find an attorney with such a unique blend of experience and we're thrilled he's decided to join us."

Prior to joining Miller & Chevalier, Drew led VEON through an FCPA monitorship to its successful conclusion in 2019. Before joining VEON, Drew managed Hewlett-Packard's (HP) response to a multi-country FCPA investigation to its 2014 resolution, leading a global team of attorneys overseeing government investigations and litigation. Later, in his role as Vice President and Associate General Counsel for Ethics and Anti-Corruption at HP and then Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Drew oversaw the company's self-reporting obligations and implementation of remedial measures under its FCPA resolution. Rounding out his in-house experience, Drew served as Director of Corporate Compliance and Business Practices at Endo Pharmaceuticals, providing compliance support for sales and marketing teams and conducting internal investigations.

In addition to his in-house perspective on government investigations and compliance matters, Drew also brings 12 years of government experience from his time in the DOJ, the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of New Jersey, and two federal clerkships in the Northern District of Illinois. At the DOJ, Drew served as a Trial Attorney in the Fraud Section, which houses the prosecution units for the FCPA, healthcare fraud, federal programs and procurement fraud, and market integrity and manipulation fraud. While an Assistant U.S. Attorney, he investigated and prosecuted cases of public corruption, securities fraud, money laundering, tax evasion, and healthcare fraud and served as lead counsel in several high-profile trials.

"When I decided I wanted to make the move to a law firm, I was immediately drawn to Miller & Chevalier's consistently excellent work and collegial culture. The Miller & Chevalier team is dynamic, and we are aligned on our belief that compliance lawyers should know how government investigations work, and white collar defense counsel best serve their client when they understand how compliance works. I'm delighted to join the firm and excited to collaborate with my teammates to solve challenges for our clients in today's increasingly complex and intertwined enforcement environment," said Drew.

Drew earned a B.A. from Wesleyan University and a J.D., cum laude, from Northwestern University. An adjunct professor at Rutgers Law School, he is a member of the bar in the District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts.
