"Has the U.S. Campaign Against Uyghur Forced Labor Been Successful?"
Foreign Policy Magazine
Richard Mojica said that since the Uyghur Forced Labor Prevention Act (UFLPA) went into effect last June, the solar industry has been the most affected. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has been detaining shipments from Chinese solar companies due to their historical ties to the Xinjiang region. While the increase in detained solar shipments caused concern in the renewable energy sector, Mojica said solar companies now have the supply chain documentation to clear detained shipments quickly, provided the polysilicon used in solar panel production was sourced outside of China. Mojica said the process to clear detained shipments used to take months but now – for some companies - it only takes weeks.
