Sandeep Prasanna Quoted on Congressional Oversight of DOJ in Bloomberg Law
Subtitle
"DOJ Restocks Congress Liaison Team as Republicans Circle"
Bloomberg Law
Sandeep Prasanna, who worked as a congressional investigator and also liaised with Congress as a legislative affairs attorney for the Department of Justice (DOJ), commented on the outlook for increased House oversight of DOJ, led by the new Republican majority. "There are countless personal crusades going on; there are larger political forces going on; there's a presidential campaign season starting. I think all of those factors combined make for a very unpredictable environment that makes for a very difficult legislative affairs job," Prasanna said. "It's encouraging that House Judiciary is responding well to DOJ's first production, but all signs point to more document requests, more subpoenas, and more testimony," Prasanna noted. Prasanna, who previously prepared DOJ nominees and witnesses for congressional hearings, also observed that part of job for legislative affairs staffers "is to try to create as real an environment as possible for the witness" in the training sessions "so that they're not thrown off their feet."
