Loren Ponds centers her practice on providing strategic counsel to clients on legislative, regulatory, and other tax policy issues, as well as advising on technical tax matters related to transfer pricing and other international tax topics. She advises clients on the impacts of tax policy, such as the implementation of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (TCJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (IRA), and issues related to technical corrections, administrative guidance, and legislative amendments to various provisions. Ms. Ponds has also represented her clients before the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) on international tax controversy matters such as competent authority claims and transfer pricing audits. Ms. Ponds was described by clients in Chambers USA as "a brilliant tax lawyer. She has in-depth policy experience and is an incredibly well-rounded expert in the matters that matter most to us." Clients noted she is "very responsive and demonstrates tax technical skills and a deep awareness of how the tax legislative process works on Capitol Hill." 

As an authority on key international tax issues, including the Pillars One and Two international tax reforms spearheaded by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) and transfer pricing, Ms. Ponds is a highly sought-after speaker. She is frequently quoted in a variety of publications, including Accounting Today, Bloomberg Tax, Law360, Tax Notes, and Wall Street Journal. Her other media appearances include CNBC's Squawk Box and Bloomberg's Talking Tax podcast. 

Prior to joining Miller & Chevalier in 2018, Ms. Ponds served as Majority Tax Counsel to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means, where she developed, analyzed, and refined the international tax provisions of the TCJA. She also worked in Ernst & Young LLP's National Tax Department, where her practice focused on transfer pricing planning and controversy projects. 

Fluent in French and German, Ms. Ponds worked abroad as Ernst & Young's Global Transfer Pricing Operations Manager in Düsseldorf, Germany. She was also a German Chancellor Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Universität Hamburg-International Tax Institute in Germany, as well as a Trainee at the OECD in Paris, France.
